Peter Greenberg’s Book Tour

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008Now I am a vegetarian and before you give me any crap for it let me say that I don’t make fun of you for eating meat. Anyways I ordered myself a yummy bean burrito and I get it to my table and I look at it, which is a habit you get into when you don’t eat something. Well I look at it and I am like whoa I almost ate that. So I go up to the lady at the counter and tell her bean burrito has meat in it. She says and I kid you not “enjoy it” I guess it is more expensive with meat in it. So I tell her that I got a bean burrito not because I was to frugal to spend an extra 10 cents on meat but because I did not want meat. She rolls her eyes and takes my burrito. They make me a new one and the same thing I check and there is meat so I do something I probably should not have I went up to the lady plopped the open burrito on the counter and said hey there is meat here and she looked at me and I said “enjoy it” and stormed out. I left the place hungry. Vegetarians or anybody who is picky about their food don’t go there.

Galatoire’s, New Orleans, LA
Wednesday, July 30th, 2008Dined at Galatoire’s back in 2000 and loved it. Went with my wife for anniversary on June 20, 08. Wait staff reminded me of a lower quality restaraunt (not charming). We started with a lack of bread plates which meant our “crusty french bread” crumbs went EVERYWHERE. That’s not too big a deal though. We had our salads and they were mediocre. Had better, had worse. Then the real magic or lack therof started. I ordered a stuffed eggplant only to learn that this was not stuffed eggplant at all, but rather a mushy ball of eggplant, and seafood that tasted litterally like watered down mushy, cold grits. Very little taste. This item was on the “specialties list” arg. My wife, a vegetarian, ordered the vegetable grill, which she has enjoyed from places in town like Commanders Palace and the Court of 2 sisters. However this gril was awful. They just sliced up a few veggies layin’ around and stuck them over the coals a few minutes. No taste, no creativity by the kitchen staff. I figure that if a restaurant cannot cook vegetables well, it is very indicative of the remainder of thier menu. I will not return to Galatoire’s again.
