We have gone to the Monterey Inn yearly for quite some time now as part of a Halloween tradition to go and see one of the haunted tours that St. Augustine has to offer. For the first couple of years the hotel seemed nice, it was well priced, had an ocean view, and was walking distance from the city.
Notice I am talking in past tense about the Monterey Inn. That’s because I will never go there again. Our last visit was horrible. We got there and our and I am certain our beds were being made as we were checking in because they were horribly done. The room had a mildew smell (the kind you get when you don’t fix a leaky air conditioner). My family who was staying in the room next door with two children, found a bottle of emergency Nitroglycerin spray under their bed. Now this stuff is dangerous since it drastically slows your heart rate. What if one of her young children got a hold of it and thought it was a candy spray.
We spoke to management who was very rude to us. This is what really got me. The other things were okay because it’s not a really expensive hotel and you get what you pay for, but when the staff and management were rude about things they had done wrong, we decided not to go back. This year, we are going to the Conch House Marina Resort. It seems a whole lot nicer.
